Enough is Enough!

Recently, Bruins forward, Milan Lucic came under fire after beating Long Island native and current Montreal Candiens player Mike Komisarek in a fight and showboating afterwards. The next time they played, Georges Laraque shadowed Lucic the entire game trying to get him to fight. Lucic refused, refused and refused and nothing came out of it.

Today Lucic was at it again, after delivering a dirty hit on Tim Jackman. Jackman was driven head first into the boards and needed several stitches to close a wound above his eye. Later in the game, Brendan Witt attempted his version of a comeback and went after Lucic. Jackman, who returned to the game, immedietely took the law into his own hands and went after Shane Hnidy.

While the Bruins and Isles were brawling, Jason Pitton went with Syracuse's [and ex-Sarnia Sting tough guy] Devin Didiomete. Didiomete, was Steve Stamkos' bodyguard in Sarnia. Unfortunately in this game both Mitch Fritz and Brandon Sugden were scratched.

Mitch Fritz was told by the Islanders brass that he would be used on an "as needed" basis. Well Fritz was needed this week and after teh Devils game, Fritz was on the ice to send messages. His first opponenet was the Sabres Andrew Peters. Then Fritz went up against an old friend in Eric Godard.

Pascal Morency who was voted Player of The Year by the Bridgeport fans last season finally suited up in the orange and white this weekend, and gave the fans something to cheer about by dropping the gloves twice in one game against Philadelphia. He first dropped them with Chase Trull, who was making his AHL debut, and then went with Philadelphia's resident tough guy, Matt Clackson. Morency, of course gave his signature "wave" to the crowd after each fight and of course, the fans went nuts. Pascal has definitely been a "player for the fans" and for those who do not know him, he is an easy guy to root for.

To say the Islanders and the Devils are heated rivals would be an understatement. The two teams have recorded a total of 22 fight's between them in the past 10 games. The rivalry heated up when Doug Weight laid out the Devil's coach Brent Sutter's kid Brandon with a huge, but LEGAL hit. Despite the fact that Brandon doesn't play for the Devils, there was talk that some payback was in order.

When the Isles walked in the Rock last night, payback was the last thing on anyones mind. Tim Jackman fought Bryce Salvador in the second period where nothing seemed out of the ordinary. But at 16:41 of the second, Mike Mottau came across the blue line and laid out Frans Nielsen with a cheapshot. Trent Hunter was the first to challenge Mottau. We later found out that Nielsen will be out no less than three months as a result of that hit.

Mike Mottau is not a dirty player, but he delivered a dirty hit on Nielsen. The fact that Mottau only recieved a 2 minute minor for the hit was ridiculous. What was worse was that no Islander outside of Hunter, went after him or any other Devil the rest of the night.

Mitch Fritz is finally starting to heat up, getting into two scraps this past week. First, he welcomed Thomas Harrison of the Lowell Devils to the AHL, by beating him pretty soundly. Then he took on John Scott of Houston; a fight where Fritz looked human, being bloodied by Scott.

Tim Jackman recorded his first fight for the Islanders this week, as he dropped the gloves with Ottawa's Chris Neil. In an interview after the fight, Jackman had stated that he went after Neil simply because he was taking liberties with his teammates, most notably Bill Guerin. Jackman knows his role, and realizes that a player like Guerin is more valuable on the ice then off of it. Neil didn't look that much into the fight, and ended up injured afterward.

Matt Martin, of the Sarnia Sting, dropped the gloves twice this week, along with added 3 more goals to his resume. First, Martin was jumped by Oshawa's Jeff Brown and later in the week, was jumped once again for laying a big hit on a Sudbury player. He was jumped by Tyler Sheldrake. For those who are not familiar with Martin or his type of play, here's Marty [as he's called in Sarnia] at this Summer's training camp explaining what type of player he is and the style of game he plays.
