KEVIN COLLEY

Whats not to
say about Kevin Colley? Kevin has been a sparkplug
for the Islanders team ever since he was called
up early in the season. Colley had been signed by
the Islanders in 2004 and played the entire season
for hte Bridgeport Soundtigers. While playing for
the Soundtigers, Colley had become popular with
both his teammates and the fans. Colley wasn't
really known for his scoring, it was his grit that
got the attention of the fans. Colley had played in 60
games for the Soundtigers last season and was 2nd
in penalty minutes, only behind the Islanders
current tough guy; Eric Godard.
Colley was voted
as the team's most passionate player by his
teammates and caught the eye of then
Islanders coach, Steve Stirling. When the lockout
finally ended in 2005, Colley went back to work
for the Soundtigers picking up 3 goals and
recording 30 penalty minutes. He was called up to
the Islanders after injuries plagued the team.
Colley ended up sticking with hte club after
showing his grit and toughness as he cruised down
the ice hitting everything in sight. Colley
was called one of the better middleweights in the
AHL by his coach Steve Stirling, and attempted to
prove his naysayers wrong as he got into 6 fights
while with the Islanders.
On
January 31, Colley was injured when he missed a
check and slid head first into the boards. Colley ended
up breaking hte fifth vertebrae in his neck. He skated
off the ice but was in bad condition.
He later had surgery on his neck and is currently
in stable condition. Unfortunately, Colley's playing days may be over
because of the seriousness of this injury. For
the man who drew many comparisons to
another Islander banger; Steve Webb, we all hope Colley
is healthy and returns to the ice as
soon as possible.
