1/27/07 Eric Godard vs Derek Boogaard
The last time we saw both Eric Godard and Derek Boogaard, both players were being led off the ice with minor injuries due to thier fight. Godard came back and played, but Boogaard did not. Eric Godard, shut up the critics by TKO'ing the monster, ending Boogaard's night with a minor concussion.
A lot was said about Godard that night, as well as the next night and the night after that. It was thought that Godard would stick with Calgary, and take Darren McCarty's job. That was not the case, as Godard was sent back down to Omaha a few nights later.
Then the team went to Minnesota and Boogaard was slated to play. With that news, Godard was brought back up and was placed in the lineup that night. In the second period the two men lined up aginst each other. We all knew what was to happen next. Boogaard had something to prove, and we all knew it. Then the puck dropped.
They drop the gloves right off the faceoff. They both grab on, and Boogaard delivers the first punch. Godard takes the punch flush and it doesnt phase him. They trade punches, nothing really landing as they swing each other around. Boogaard throws a body blow, and then comes over the top. Godard returns fire, and Boogaard counters once again. They tie each other up and swing, but nothing is landing. They are trading punches, as Godard surprises Boogaard with a huge left, while hes holding onto Boogaard's jersey. Boogaard's head snaps back. Godard counters that with two more nice shots as Boogaard straightens out. The go punch for punch for a feew seconds. Godard with lefts, Boogarrd with rights. Both players helmets are off as Boogaard delivers another huge right. Boogaard gets the jersey over Godard's head and hits him again . Godard loses his balance and goes down. Boogaard delivers two more huge punches to Godard as he's down. The refs come in and break it up.
